Mule Deer and white-tailed deer are a common sight
in Wyoming Black Hills. Mule deer are much more often sighted on
Scotsdown, white-tailed deer are not as common. We see a few whitetails
each year. Two whitetail does raised four fawns here this summer (2000)
and again in 2001 |

Mountain lions or Cougars aren't a common animal on
Scotsdown or easily sighted in the area. They are
present here however. A group of antelope hunters at Scotsdown in
October of 1997, were privileged to see a lion near Lake Lucy. |

Elk aren't common on Scotsdown but you may
see one. We saw our first bull elk in September, 1998.
"Our" bull was probably a two year old pushed out by an older
herd bull.
You've a good chance to see a coyote in spite of efforts to
keep their numbers in check.

Porcupines are quite common at Scotsdown, the pesky
little critters chew the bark off the ponderosa pine trees. They
also manage to lure some foolish cattle each year into getting a nose full
of quills. |

Pronghorn antelope are present on Scotsdown from
March until mid November most years. They prefer to head
"south" for the winter and are very seldom sighted here in the
winter months. |
